Calvin Vlaanderen has enjoyed a very competitive Saturday at the TT Circuit Assen as he claimed second place in today’s qualifying race after topping the timesheets in timed practice on his Honda machine. The sole standard bearer of Team HRC in MX2 will return to action tomorrow morning at 10:25 local time (GMT +2) for warm up, with the two, penultimate-round encounters scheduled at 13:15 and 16:10.

Calvin did not get the best of jump out the gate but was able nevertheless to sweep trouble-free into turn one and complete the first lap in third place. The 22-year-old from Cape Town soon began a battle with Conrad Mewse and eventually powered his Honda CRF250RW machine past the British rival. Vlaanderen then consolidated second place up to the finish line.

We had a really good day today. I felt good in all sessions, from free practice all the way into the qualifying race. We are really happy with how the day unfolded and we have a great gate-pick for tomorrow. We’ll try to get two good starts and have fun out there – which is the most important thing of all. I have a good flow around the track so I’m looking forward to tomorrow.

Calvin had a very solid day today and did what he had to do – riding at the front in all sessions to build some momentum ahead of tomorrow. The time away from races after Turkey served him well to regroup and this week’s test has given the confidence he needs to perform at his best. He showed he’s got the speed and the right frame of mind to battle for a very good result tomorrow, so we can’t wait to see what he’ll be able to do.
