Calvin Vlaanderen has secured a sixth-gate pick for the two 12th round MX2 races taking place tomorrow at Pangkal Pinang in Indonesia. The Team HRC rider put together a solid performance in what was an unexpectedly dry qualifying race, with track conditions very different to the ones encountered by the quarter-litre World Championship class earlier today in both free and timed practice.

Calvin maintained his position at the start, powering out his Honda CRF250RW machine out of the gates up to seventh place. He was then promoted to sixth after Pootjes crashed out on the second lap, a position he managed to keep throughout the moto courtesy of a good race pace, which at times allowed him to close up on fifth place.

The two MX2 races of the MXGP of Indonesia will begin tomorrow at 12:15 and 15:10 local time (GMT +7).

The day went smoothly and without any mishaps, except that we were lucky with the weather! The track dried out during the day; it didn’t flow so well during free and timed practice, but it felt good in the qualifying race. I had a good start and I was in sixth place for almost the whole race. I did my own thing and tried to make no mistakes, while trying to learn some fast lines for tomorrow. It’s quite difficult to pass on a track like this one. Hopefully we can get two good starts tomorrow and battle for strong results.

Calvin rode a solid race and sixth place is good ahead of tomorrow. He stayed in touch with the guys ahead of him for a big part of the moto and was smart in not taking any risk. He still has a lot left in the tank so I expect him to battle for honours tomorrow if he can get two good starts. It’s not easy to pass on this track so the early moments of the race will be crucial for a strong result.
