Evgeny Bobryshev started the MXGP of The Netherlands strongly, sitting at the top of the timesheets after the first free practice on Saturday morning, but after being involved in another rider’s accident in race two, the focus turned to recovering from the back of the field.

Race one went well as Bobby climbed from sixth after qualifying to finish fifth, and he looked to continue that progression into race two with a good start that saw him settle into fifth.

Unfortunately, on the opening lap whilst running fifth Bobby was an unwitting participant in Gautier Paulin’s crash. The No.777 CRF450RW remained upright, but the delay came as Paulin’s tumbling bike snagged Bobby’s handlebar with its rear wheel and jammed against the brake lever. So entwined were the two bikes that it required a marshal to separate them, sending Bobby to the back of the pack.

Fighting back through the field though, Bobby salvaged tenth position overall in the Grand Prix classification, securing more all-important points.

"Today everything started well and was better than yesterday. We had a good setup with the bike and I made a good consistent first race. I’m really missing the time on the bike, so that’s what affected me at the end of the first race otherwise I would have finished fourth which was a shame. For the second race I was feeling good, but Paulin had a big crash in front of me and his bike fell on my bike on the handlebar.

His back brake disc went onto my handlebar and as his rear wheel turned it stuck in my front brake lever so I couldn’t get my bike out. I pushed and pushed but the bike was just stuck until the flag marshal came and we could turn the wheel and take the handlebars out. After a few laps I feel lots of pain in my little finger as his rear wheel hit it in the crash, but it’s ok.

It’s a big shame because I like this track and I usually have good speed here but again something happened with me and someone else’s crash. At the moment it’s a difficult situation coming back from the injury as I have to start training again, but we are pushing hard as everybody wants the results, and I do a lot so it’s frustrating when things like this happen and I have to struggle through from the back."

"This weekend Max is of course injured so couldn’t race, although we were still happy to see him at the track today, but we can see that Bobby physically is getting better again which is good. Race one he was close to the top group, but in race two there was bad luck with the crash he was caught in. The bike had some damage to the brake lever which meant he couldn’t use it properly, but still we saw his fighting spirit as he finished tenth overall and got some points which is important. Now we must just move our minds to Spain next weekend and hope for good luck there."

Roger Harvey

HRC General Manager - MXGP

"We were all set for a podium at a track Bobby likes but unfortunately it wasn’t to be this weekend. The first race was not so bad but in the last few laps the pace was slightly down, but that’s to be expected at the moment with the lack of bike time he’s had as a result of his recent injuries. He’s missing the mid-week riding as he has had to rest and recover, and at this level you can’t just ride from Grand Prix to Grand Prix. We got a few days’ testing in this week so that’s good and he’ll be able to do more as he continues to fully recover with his back and ankle.

In the second race it was just unfortunate. He managed the first two corners very well again and came out fifth but then unfortunately he then got stuck and he couldn’t get the bike off his handlebars so he had to spend a lot of time and energy getting out of that and then set off again from the back. There’s no one to blame; it was just a case of the wrong place at the wrong time."
