Honda HRC’s MXGP duo of Tim Gajser and Ruben Fernandez finished fourth and fifth overall respectively at the MXGP of Turkiye, putting in consistent motos at the hard-pack circuit in Afyon and showing that they are both in good form to finish off this 2025 World Motocross Championship strongly.

Each GP back for Gajser has shown that he is getting closer and closer to the podium spots and this weekend was no exception with his four-four results. He was battling with the top three guys for the majority of the weekend, ending up just under nine seconds from the leader in race two, so with two more rounds left, there is time for the #243 to up his pace even further and get back to the form that saw him win three of the first five rounds of this season.

Fernandez also managed to put in two consistent scores, coming through the pack with some excellent passes and making it two CRF450Rs in the top five as he followed his teammate across the line in both races. It was good to see the Spaniard finish strongly in both motos as that has been an issue throughout this year, so with that boost of confidence, he now wants to make the next step and add a few more points to be able to get back on the podium again.

In the MX2 class, Valerio Lata showed some better speed throughout the weekend, with the fastest lap in timed practice being the highlight for the youngster. The points tally isn’t perhaps a fair reflection of his speed, but he knows that, and his moto speed for the duration of the races is something he’ll be working on once the season is over. Before that though, he has two races to attend in China and Australia that’ll be brand-new experiences for the Italian, so he wants to enjoy those as much as possible and good results will definitely make that possible.

Tim Gajser 243

I think this was another good weekend, and I’m feeling better and better on the track. I was matching the leaders’ pace and battling with them for most of the two motos so I have to be happy. Of course I want to be winning races, but I think it’ll come, step by step, and we still have two more rounds and I’m confident that it’ll happen before the end of the season. We had some good starts over the weekend as well, so that’s another positive and I’m excited to head to China and Australia.

Ruben Fernandez 70

It was a solid weekend, and I think fifth is a fair reflection of my speed compared with the other guys, but it was still good to have two consistent motos because it hasn’t been easy to put in two good scores in both races. Of course, I would like to be battling with those top guys, but I wasn’t able to get up there quickly enough. Still, my speed was good and it gives me a nice boost for the last two rounds where I will try my best to fight for the podium spots.

Valerio Lata 18

This was my best GP for a while, but it still isn’t really the level that I want to be. I had speed in places but I know that I need to keep that for the entire motos because the rest of the guys don’t make mistakes and it is easy to lose positions in bunches. It is something that I can definitely improve upon and I’m confident that I will get to that level, so that is the goal just to push as much as possible in these last two rounds and end the season strongly.

Marcus Pereira de Freitas

HRC General Manager - MXGP

It was good to see Tim back up there battling with the top guys, and I think it is clear he is very close to getting on the podium and perhaps even more, before the season ends. We will obviously try to help him get there and make sure he finishes this year, like he started it. Ruben also had two strong motos, making some good passes to get into fifth in both races. We will be working hard with him to help with the starts but I think China and Australia will be good for him. I also think we saw some positive signs for Valerio that the final two rounds can be better. It has been a long season for him, but he has kept fighting and even for next year it gives us a lot of hope of what he can achieve.
