Team HRC’s Evgeny Bobryshev finished fifth in today’s scorching qualifying race in Spain, getting stronger as the race progressed and hunting down fourth position.

Making good progress to climb through the field from seventh, ultimately the Russian on the no.777 CRF450RW finished just 1.6 seconds adrift of fourth-placed Clement Desalle, setting his fastest time on lap nine out of 12 in the process.

As temperatures hit 30 degrees Celsius on track, Bobby kept his cool to put himself in a strong position to start tomorrow’s two races of 30 minutes + two laps each. His performance also leaves him with a renewed confidence since his injuries earlier in the season that have so far hindered both his training and his time on the bike.

"I’m pleased with today. At the beginning in the free practice I had a bit of a problem with the setup and I was really uncomfortable, but then we made a good step up with the setting. By the timed practice I was feeling much better and I got the feeling back on the bike and on the track.

In the race I wheelied from the start gate so I lost a bit of time but I could manage to come through the first few corners in fifth place behind Boog and Goncalves. It’s difficult to pass here with really just one line but when they passed each other I could sneak inside.

Then I was just trying to make consistent laptimes. After the injury earlier in the year, I’ve got the feeling back now on the bike and I feel much better on it. Now I just need to learn again how to stay in the front, but over a few laps I could catch the guys ahead. The race is tomorrow and we still have to improve, but I’m happy to get the feeling back on the bike and that the laptimes were good at the end of the race. I feel like I’m getting back to my style and my top speed again."

"A positive day today. We changed the bike quite a bit for the qualifying race since the morning which suited Bobby well. The bike worked better and Bobby felt comfortable and his speed improved throughout the race with has fastest lap coming on lap nine of 12, which was good to see. Then he just let his confidence grow which is what he needed. It’s only the second week he’s been testing mid-week really since the operation on his ankle after the MXGP of Thailand back in March.

The track’s difficult with the watering in places which has made parts boggy and some very slippery. Bobby got a little bit boxed in at the first corner, but you’ve got to be careful of the first corner here because it’s a tightening right then left so he managed the situation well and they stayed consistent. We’re looking forward to tomorrow and continuing to let the confidence build."
