Evgeny Bobryshev will start tomorrow’s two races from fourth position after a strong performance in today’s qualifying. The Russian got out of the gate well into fifth as the field settled into the rhythm, and was able to pick his way into fourth by the flag.

Heavy rain yesterday left the Frauenfeld track muddy and sticky this morning so the morning’s practice was a slippery affair, but today’s sun soon dried that out. The resulting ruts that remained made for a difficult race, especially for those in the pack around the tight and twisty track, and by the time Bobby had made the pass for fourth the top three, Tim Gajser included, were already too far up the road.

Another to feel the sting of the ruts and the jostling of the field was Gautier Paulin. After slightly missing the gate drop he found himself in 22nd position – right in the thick of the bar-banging. As the field settled down, the gaps between the riders grew but Gautier was able to reclaim a few positions to cross the line in 18th position. There’s work to do tomorrow for the Frenchman, but aboard the CRF450RW a good start will propel him towards the front of the field and back into contention.

“I like the track here and it’s fun to ride. It was really tough this morning after all the rain but Youthstream did a great job on the track and it was a lot better this afternoon. In the race I lost a lot of time behind Butron trying to pass him for fourth as it’s difficult with the long and deep ruts, and by the time I did the guys at the front had gone away, but still fourth is good for tomorrow and I’m happy enough with today.”

“The track is looking really good today and the ground is awesome. After the rain there are deep ruts so from this side it’s tricky though. At the start of the race I lost a bit on concentration when another rider moved too early, so then I made a bad start and was in the middle of the pack. It’s really difficult to pass riders here because the track is quite small and the ruts are long so it’s very hard to change the line. But I think we can make something tomorrow with a good start as between the inside and outside gates I don’t think there’s much difference into turn one.”

“The race today was very different if you were at the front of the pack or in the middle of it, especially in the opening laps. The nature of this track, especially with the ruts, really bunched the field before everyone started to string out into the space to find their rhythm, so at the front we saw Bobby ride well to fourth but Gautier struggle to 18th. Work on the track overnight is likely to change things slightly for tomorrow, but still a start will be crucial.”
