Evgeny Bobryshev finished second overall at the MXGP of France with two faultless rides to third in each race. After a very difficult weekend for the team, the popular Russian dedicated his first podium on the Team HRC CRF450RW to the team’s hospitality staff.

Following Thursday’s incident, an update on their conditions is now available. Whilst one is still under medical observation, two have tonight regained consciousness and are conversing and moving normally. They will all continue to be monitored, but the signs of recovery are positive.

The pace of both Bobby and home hero Gautier Paulin was there all weekend, but whilst Bobby chalked up two third-place finishes with impressive consistency, it was a more troubled weekend for Paulin on the 21 machine.

After recording the fastest lap yesterday in the qualifying race, all the ingredients were in place for another victory for the Frenchman. Running in second in the first moto and lining up his move on the lead, his race was heartbreakingly cut short when an electrical problem forced him to stop. In race two he came home in sixth, but his pace was also stymied by a problem with his vision, leaving him frustrated and disappointed in front of his home crowd.

The fans turned out in force and were firmly behind him nevertheless as 45,000 of them lined the hills and trees surrounding this typically French venue.

Roger Harvey

HRC General Manager - MXGP

“Everyone in the team has just shown remarkable spirit this weekend. It was a difficult start with the situation we had on Thursday, although I am now very pleased to say that the three guys seem to be making a recovery and two of them are conscious and talking and acting normally again which is fantastic news. We’ve all still had to get on and do the job this weekend, and the riders have still had to get out there and do it, and bringing home a podium with Bobby is just great. I’m really pleased with the way everyone on the team has conducted themselves this weekend in very difficult circumstances.”

Evgeny Bobryshev 777

3rd, 3rd 2nd overall

“For me this podium is like the first ever podium again because it’s been a journey back from injury. My goal was to be consistent in the race and grow my race confidence and my physical confidence race-by-race so I’m really happy about this. I was struggling on this track a little and with my pace. Ok I’m still on the podium, but anyway I was still quite stiff on the bike. I want to dedicate this podium to our guys after the situation on Thursday and I hope they get better soon.”

Gautier Paulin 21

DNF, 6th 12th

“This weekend it’s been great to see all the French crowd here; it’s been really amazing. Just I want to give them more today and show them my real level. This weekend I couldn’t. There’s nothing more to say than I couldn’t. In the first moto the bike stopped and then in the second moto, on the first lap I had a problem with my vision so it was really hard to spend the moto like this as I couldn’t ride as I wanted. It’s been a really disappointing weekend, especially when you see the speed I had at this track. It’s tough when you have a weekend like this when we had all the things we needed to win but leave with some small points. The fans are amazing here though. I saw a fan who has my bike, the HRC Honda #21, tattooed on his arm, and then he also had the GP21 logo tattooed on him. It’s amazing how these people love our sport so I’m really thankful for that.”
