Team HRC MX2 on fighting form
Team MX2 HRC Michele Cervellin and Lars Van Berkel had an encouraging start to the MXGP of Latvia today in qualifying, giving them both something to build on in tomorrows race.
Cervellin who is now over the worst of his hand injury, seemed more comfortable on the bike today as he carved his CRF250RW through the Latvian sands. The Italian demonstrated he is back to fight for his championship coming in 16th position, sensibly leaving a little more in the tank for tomorrow.
Dutchman Lars Van Berkel found the technical track a little more difficult than he had hoped and made some silly mistakes but battled on to qualify in 23rd position. The warm weather had allowed the track to dry out meaning the sand on-top is quickly dispersed to reveal square, edged bumps which can easily catch riders out.
Both riders will be looking to get a better overall result in tomorrow’s race. The first MX2 race starting at 13:15 local time.

Today is not so bad for me. I like the track but I haven’t been able to train since Mexico because of the problem with my hand. Now that I have rested it and not raced for two weeks it is much better. I am happy, I don’t have pain and I enjoyed racing. I know that I can improve on today and that is what is important. Tomorrow I will try to give the best result I possibly can.

My start was actually good today but I was on the outside so it didn’t work as I was pushed out and was quite far back. I made a lot of passes to get back into the back. I managed to make my way back to 20th and then I made a few mistakes which meant I finished 23rd. I need to go back and focus on what I need to do for tomorrow and come back faster.

Michele is still carrying the hand injury which has been hampering his riding. He will be riding to do damage limitation to both his championship and his hand. Lars didn’t make the best of starts today so will be looking to improve that tomorrow and finish well into the points.
