Michele Cervellin secured a top 10 qualifying position at the MXGP of Switzerland today, as stand in rider Taiki Koga took to the world motocross championship scene for the first time on the CRF250RW.

Heavy rain on the Friday left the track in a prime condition. The tacky dirt and solid berms meant the riders had a healthy choice of lines on the track.

Michele started mid-pack and tussled his way through from 14th to 12th place fairly quickly. As the race went on his confidence in the track grew and he came in a solid 8th place overall.

Taiki took to the line for his first taste of racing in MX2 today and the young Japanese made a strong start. He fought for positions and even when a few crashes set him back, he remounted and carried on battling until the end of the race.

The first MX2 race starts at 13h15 local time tomorrow.

Today qualifying was good for me. It has been a long time since I have ridden like this and it is fun, I like the track. Today is the qualifying race so tomorrow is when it really matters but I believe it is possible for me to improve on some positions tomorrow, if I ride like I did today.

Qualifying for me today was a learning curve. I finished 27th after I had two crashes but my body is ok, I have no problems. I feel good and so tomorrow I should be able to ride much better. It is a difficult track but I liked it. The ruts are so deep and there are alot of bumps and stones. Tomorrow I will do my best and keep pushing.

Good start for Miki today in Switzerland. He kept it running into the top 10 most of the race and he has the speed to run high but a start is critical for tomorrow.
For Taiki with this being his first race in MX2, it was quite impressive really. The Japanese don't have the level of MX2 riders that we have over here so it was good to see him push in a highly competitive group. He ended up pushing too hard and fell off but we get slip ups and I am sure he has learnt a lot from this which he can put into tomorrow.
