Vlaanderen fights back to top 10 in qualification

I really enjoy riding here at Matterley Basin but in free practice and timed practice I just felt a bit uncomfortable on the bike. I was still able to get fourth gate pick though, which I felt was good enough to challenge. However I spun on the gate and while I was behind another rider on the first downhill, he made a mistake and I got caught up with him and by the time I got free, I was last. I then managed to make some good passes to make it back to ninth, which is good for my confidence, knowing that I have the speed and that I can make good passes. I’m looking forward to tomorrow though to try and challenge even higher up the field.

It was a shame for Calvin to get caught up in that incident on the first lap which ruined any chance he had of battling with the top riders. However it was still good to see him make all those passes and to end up in ninth was an impressive effort, given just how far back he started off the race. That gate pick should still see him in with a chance of getting a good start tomorrow and once he does that, I believe he can challenge for the podium positions.
