Bobryshev climbs to fourth in the world with solid MXGP of Leon
Evgeny Bobryshev delivered a Grand Prix weekend of note in Leon, Mexico, overcoming obstacles to finish fourth overall, and climb to fourth in the World Championship.
Battered and bruised from his crash in Argentina one week ago, the big Russian made a remarkable recovery during the weekend to ride as well as he did in Mexico. This on top of the fact that his bike didn’t arrive until Saturday morning because of delays with the championship freight arriving from Argentina, so the usual machine turnaround and preparation time was much reduced.
In race one he took the holeshot and led the opening lap, and was settling into a comfortable second until the closing minutes when he slipped to fourth behind Febvre and Nagl.
In race two, it was the same four riders at the front as Gajser led out front from Febvre, and Bobryshev chased Nagl for third, and the final step of the podium. Pushing hard, by mid-distance Bobby had closed the gap to just over two seconds, ultimately crossing the line in fourth to take fourth overall in the Grand Prix, and move himself up to fourth in the World Championship.

“We had a consistent weekend so I’m pretty much happy. Today I had less speed and confidence, and less flow, than yesterday though. Yesterday the speed and time was good, but today the track changed. There were big ruts and I was struggling to make the speed. To finish two times fourth is ok though, and I closed up to the top three in the championship, just one point from third, so I’m happy enough.”

“Bobby rode well today and showed a little bit of that form again to take two fourth place finishes and move to within one point of third in the World Championship. He just missed a podium, but he had a solid and consistent weekend, took a holeshot, and led race one. Tim rode fantastically to claim his third GP win of the season, resisting great pressure and riding with the maturity of a champion.”
