Back on home soil today in Arco Italy, Michele Cervellin started off the European leg of MXGP today with a career best qualifying result.

Putting together everything he had learnt from the overseas races, Cervellin started well and found himself in seventh position within the first corner. The better start paid off as he very quickly made his into the top sixth continuing to fight for positions. Keeping his head level and riding smooth, with ten minutes to go Cervellin raced into the top four and held onto this position for the rest of the race.

With this positive start to the weekend, Cervellin will carry this momentum into tomorrow’s races.

The first MX2 race starts at 13:15 local time tomorrow.

Today has been a good day for me. I have had the best qualifying race of the season so far but the real race is tomorrow. We will try to do the same as we did today but I would like to do better. The track I know well as I live really close and I have alot of fans here. The track today was hard and a little bit slippery but I like it and I feel like everything for me here is much more comfortable which is giving me confidence in the race.

A great start today for Michele with a strong and consistent ride. He battled continuously throughout the race and held onto fourth place, which he quickly got into from the start. He wasn’t very far from the opposition and the potential is there for the same again tomorrow. Michele will need to carry the momentum from today into tomorrow and ignore the pain from his hand injury.
